We are now adopting a Sunday only course, which mean combining the theory and practical parts of the course into one easy to manage session. Week 1 - Theory This is a general introduction to the System of Car Control which underpins Advanced Driving. Week 1 - PracticalDemonstration drive by an Observer in his/her car to show the techniques associated with the System of Car Control. This is followed by a Check Drive by you in your car to see how bad your driving is! Week 2 - TheoryThis session is about Observation, Thinking Ahead, Acceleration and Deceleration, Gears, Brakes, Steering and Skidding Week 2 - PracticalCheck drive by you in your car to show how much you have picked up so far. How is your commentary doing? Week 3 - TheoryThis session covers Junctions, Signals, Cornering, Driving in Town, Driving in the Country and Manoeuvring Week 3 - PracticalYou are able to ask your Observer to demonstrate any aspects of the course covered so far. This is optional and you can instead carry out a check drive in your car. Week 4 - TheoryThis session is all about Overtaking, Motorway Driving, Bad Weather Speed and Safety and Commentary Week 4 - PracticalYou will carry out a check drive covering most aspects of what was covered in the previous theory session, including driving on a motorway or fast dual carriageway. Week 5 - TheoryThis session covers Difficult Conditions, Driving for Economy, Vehicle Sympathy and Driver Fatigue Week 5 - PracticalA final demonstration drive by your observer to show the standard you should have reached by now. Then it is over to you. Week 6 - TheoryDuring this session your get to meet the Examiner! This includes What the test involves, Summary of tutorials, What happens next? and Questions and Answers Week 6 - PracticalAssessed check drive - Are you ready for it? You are now ready to arrange for your IAM Advanced Driver Assessment with one of the IAM's many local examiners. This is done at a time mutually convenient to you and the examiner, but is generally during normal office hours Monday to Friday. Some tests can be arranged on a Saturrday, but this is up to the examiner.
